We have a list of 14 Valentine’s Day Activities for Kids,
And some for you too!
It’s the month of February and with love and kindness in the air, we decided the best thing to do is come up with a list of all the things you can do in the classroom to celebrate Valentine’s Day! We also want you to show yourself a little love too. What better way to do that than with a gift guaranteed to save yourself time on lesson planning and prep? Give ETTC Premium a try and unbox instant access to over 15,000 activities for your students.
Valentine’s Day Activity 1. Valentine’s Day Packet
ETTC has the cutest Valentine’s Day-themed packet! It is an exclusive resource you can find on ETTC Premium. Within the packet are color by code activities, door and bulletin board decorating projects, and a variety of math and science activities you can do with a box of conversation hearts.
2. February Monthly Packets
Whoever said you can only celebrate a holiday on the day of that holiday was WRONG! In my book, every holiday deserves a whole season to celebrate, and Valentine’s Day is no exception.
Sure, February is filled with holidays, but in my opinion, all of the things we celebrate in February are centered around love, kindness, and inclusivity. So why not embrace that for the entire month with February Monthly Activity Printables for Kindergarten, First Grade, or Second Grade. These packets include activities centered around Valentine’s Day and have things like this CVCe Word Worksheet.
3. Directed Drawing for Valentine’s Day
I will be honest; there are not many things that I remember about being in primary school. But, one thing I do remember is the activities we did while passing out Friendship Cards. My favorite one was always Directed Drawings. I am, by default, not a particularly great artist, but having the directions listed out for me step-by-step and being able to write a paragraph about what I drew after was one of my favorite parts about the Valentine’s Day parties we had in class.
Directed Drawings made me feel creative and confident enough to embrace my more artistic side! I think that sentiment fits in perfectly with the spirit of Valentine’s Day!
4. February Monthly Mini Books
Let’s be honest; thematic teaching is so much more fun than just regular old teaching! If it’s winter, I want my worksheets to be filled with snowpeople, and in February, I want them to be filled with hearts and lots of love!
Things like Monthly Packets make teaching so much more fun and the kids are always more engaged with activities in the classroom that match what is happening outside of school!
February Mini-Books includes five mini-books, monthly vocabulary, five writing prompts, and a sight word activity!
Valentine’s Day Activity 5. February Fluency Passages
ETTC has February Fluency Passages for First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade. Like I said earlier, this month is fun because we can celebrate so many different things all together under the umbrella of LOVE!
The February Fluency Passages are unique because they touch on all those things that we love about February and include titles like; The Valentine’s Day Party, Taking Care of Your Teeth, Hooray for President’s Day, Grady the Groundhog, Cupcakes with Dad, My Favorite Author, Susan B. Anthony, Cheerful Cherries, and Good Friends!
We made sure to add; a recording and accountability graph, comprehension questions, and the word count and answer key for teachers.
6. Conversation Heart Graph
Put those boxes of candy hearts to good use this year. Your students can sort them into color groups, count how many are in each group, and then answer the questions on the graph.
7. Valentine’s Day-themed Card Box
Are you planning on having your students pass out their friendship cards on Valentine’s Day? Do they need a place to store all of them before taking them home? This is a fun family project that can be done before the big day.
Our February family project includes a letter outlining the task, as well as all of the cutouts your students can color and glue onto their shoebox.
8. Valentine’s Day Color By Code
Want something super quick and easy to add to your Valentine’s Day activity list? Do something simple while working in academics with a color-by-code activity. Using this Color by Sight Word or Color by Vowels activity will give your students something to do while others pass our friendship cards, work on crafts, or simply allow them a bit of time to socialize while they are working off their sugar highs.
Valentine’s Day Activity 9. Send a Hug
There is nothing better than getting a hug. Even if it has to be sent through the mail. This fun art project has your students creating a giant heart “hug” that they can give to someone special in their life. Who will you send your hug to?
10. Dark Chocolate Rice Cereal Treat Hearts
I have made these before, and I will be honest, the recipe seems daunting, but it is not as bad as it looks. They are easy to make but do take a little bit of time. However, it is always worth it to make Rice Cereal Treats because they have always been a hit no matter where I have ever taken them! I like to mix in some sprinkles or add frosting on top instead of chocolate, but it is up to your discretion and what fits your classroom’s health and nutrition guidelines!
Valentine’s Day Activity 11. Valentine’s Day Read-Alouds:
It is my personal opinion that nothing sets the theme like a good book. Here are three cute Valentine’s Day Books that you can read aloud in your classroom.
- I Love You and Cheese Pizza (aff): I Love You and Cheese Pizza is a funny but powerful book. It teaches children that love is choosing to be kind. Love is standing up for the weak and sitting down with the broken. Love is feeling thankful for people around you and showing your appreciation. Teach kids the many different forms of love this Valentine’s Day!
- Amelia Bedelia First Valentine (aff): The second book in the nationally bestselling series about the childhood of America’s favorite literal-minded housekeeper. School is always exciting for Amelia Bedelia, and getting her first Valentine’s Day card may be the most exciting surprise of all. But what will she do when she forgets her valentines for her classmates on the bus? Luckily, Amelia Bedelia is resourceful, and she doesn’t break any hearts.
- Little Blue Truck’s Valentine (aff): Join Little Blue Truck as he delivers Valentine’s Day cards to all his farm animal friends. But as Blue beeps along, he starts to wonder: will he get any cards of his own?
12. Heart Hop Scotch
Outline a hopscotch path, take your students outside, split them up into teams, and give each group some sidewalk chalk. Have them decorate it with hearts and colors and make a competition out of it. Whichever team drew the most hearts wins or stayed in the longest wins. Give everyone a chance to win, and once they finish with the art portion, turn it into an outdoor opportunity and hop through the squares!
Valentine’s Day Activity 13. Kindness Simon Says
The normal Simon says with a Valentine’s day twist. Instead of saying the normal “Simon says to put your hands on your head” you would say “Simon says to say one nice thing to your neighbor”. You can also say: “ Simon says to point at the first red thing you see.” I would write down a list of 10-15 of these to make it worth your while.
14. Make Your Own Valentine
Send your friends a Valentine this Feb. 14th with this cute craftivity. Get those little hands working on fine motor skills and create a perfect pocket-sized Valentine for your kiddos to send to someone they love.
