Finally finished my Earth Day Unit! We have had so much fun working on this unit in class, and my kids really loved the painting activity that went with it. I got the recipe for Puffy Paint from Michelle over at Crafty Morning if you would like to see the recipe.
My kids started out by reading a little on how to protect the earth with the printable reader. We then explored a variety of texts to learn more about sustainability and ways we can conserve resources.
Take a gander at the books we read in the classroom this week!
When you are painting with this type of paint, it is important you show your kids which technique to use. I told my kiddos to make “blots” instead of stroking the brush because they want to get that “puffy” effect.

I have also created a freebie for you all so you can build your students’ background knowledge and literacy skills. This can be used during independent reading, or guided, depending on the grade level.
