They are supposed to:
2. Put a sticky note on the word.
3. Go through the strategies:
-Sound it out.
-Try a different sound.
-Read the sentence again
-Use context clues
-Use background knowledge
-etc. (the strategies you use can easily come into play with the use of sticky notes.)
4. Once they figure out what the word means, they put a check on the sticky note.
**If they do not know the word, they can talk about what the word means when I allow a team or class discussion about sticky words that could not be clarified. Usually they will have the same words they missed.
It is as easy as that! When I started this, I had to add little things to make it work for me. However you use this, it really helps kids to internalize the clarification process, while having a lot of fun reading! Enjoy!
