I’m joining in with a few of my friends to bring you a collection of holiday themed books and some inspired crafts and activities!
December is always an exciting time of year, full of joy and wonder for young children. To capture this, I recently read the pop-up book “Christmas Around the World” to my first graders!
“Christmas Around the World” is a pop-up book covering many different customs around the world. The illustrations are beautiful, and it is full of informational tabs about each country. My firsties were so engaged! I think the book is wonderful for kids because it exposes them to some traditions while painting a visual image at the same time. I read each informational insert as we went through the book.
After reading “Christmas Around the World”, we made some gingerbread candles for parents. I collected baby jars and spray painted them brown. We used Q-Tips to paint the faces onto the jars. I had my kids paint the tops red with a sponge paintbrush. We finished them by wrapping the top with a green ribbon. They loved doing this, and it will be a great parent-gift!
Since gingerbread is primarily associated with Germany, we left the Germany page open while making our gingerbread craft.
Students also enjoyed my “Holidays Around the World Unit.” This resource includes 9 close reads and activities from different countries around the world. Take a look at the pictures below to see all the featured countries available in this pack!
To celebrate all things Christmas, I am giving a FREE copy of my “Holidays Around the World Unit!”
