5 Ways to Use Sticky Notes in Your Classroom
Guest Post by Jen from Sparkling in Second Grade
Hi, my name is Jen and I’m a sticky note addict.
Sticky notes are a staple in most classrooms. I have hoards of them all around my classroom. I have drawers and shelves full of them. I buy them every time I’m in a Dollar Tree, a Target, a WalMart…you get the picture.
Now besides writing ENDLESS lists on stickies as reminders, here are some other ways I use them around my classroom:
I love to use shape stickies in math!
You can easily make graphing fun, students write their names on a sticky and put it in the bar graph they choose.
Use a small sticky to cover up a number on the hundreds chart. Students have to prove how they know what number is underneath {this is great for PK-1}.
I LOVE using these hand stickies when we are learning to count! Write 1-10 on the fingers, fold down where you start and fold down when you end {with either addition or subtraction}.
A “what stuck with you today” board! I use a chalk board so I can replace the question quickly for exit tickets.
Quick checks, do you know your informational text features??
Printing on labels is all the rage right now! I love to print a bunch of these REMINDER stickies and have them ready for whenever I need to send home a quick reminder with a student.
Again, printing on labels is where it’s at! I printed these rubrics from Mrs. Stanford’s Class and I love using them! Easy to print, easy to grade 🙂
Sometimes you have some students who need some modified behavior contracts. Last year, I had a talk talk talker. I would give her three little sticky tags and take them off quietly if she shouted out, she had 3 opportunities to shout out, she had to use them wisely ;). At the end of each subject/time I would put them back and start over. It was a helpful and quiet reminder.
