Are you a homeschool parent who stumbled upon our amazing site filled to the brim with educational tools for teachers, thinking to yourself… “Can I add this to my homeschool toolbox?” I am here to tell you, yes of course you can! Because, Homeschooler… we see you!
Hello! My name is Brittany, and I am the oddball in the Education to The Core Team. I am not a public school teacher… GASP! Instead, I am a simple homeschool mom, mashing a bunch of stuff together to form a ‘curriculum’.
I’m a bit new to the homeschool community and have started Preschool with my daughter, Marie. I’ve spent all the money, time, planning, and patience on trying to figure out a curriculum for her. However, I’ve learned that it’s a bit of a waste when teaching preschool. So much of it is hands-on learning, which I found is how most homeschool teachers do it! While working with Education to the Core, I have discovered so many great tools for my daughter to use.
These have been my favorite resources to use with my daughter, they can easily be laminated and reused, plus they are just fun! My daughter loves using the dauber activities; anything paint, and she is good to go! We also really like the pattern block worksheets. She likes putting the blocks down to create different pattern images, as well as forming letters and numbers with them. Anything that helps refresh her knowledge of the alphabet and numbers is a win for me!
Technically these were created with virtual learning in mind. However, if you’re a homeschooler whose kids like to be on their tablets, then these are great resources! During snack time or downtime, I like to break out the education apps or the virtual learning slides. There are honestly so many to choose from, it’s hard to pick! But some of my favorites are Digital Word Cards for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, these are great to start forming words and learning letter-sound relationships. We aren’t quite learning how to read yet, but I like to use this to see what she knows. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, and she can spell a word!
Another Digital favorite of mine is the Sign Language Sight Words. I grew up fascinated by American Sign Language and became quite fluent. It’s a language that isn’t always celebrated in schools as much as say Spanish and French. So I love these sight word digital activities! My daughter loves learning the alphabet in Sign Language, and again it’s one more way for her to memorize her letters.
Poetry & Tea-Time
Now, this isn’t popular in every homeschool classroom, but it is one that we really enjoy. Friday Tea Parties! My daughter loves this because she gets to dress up in one of her princess dresses. We make a big deal about our Friday Tea Parties, we get dressed up, bake cookies (or mom buys premade sweets lol), and we read some poetry. Sometimes we will read from books we like, but I have found that I really like the No Prep Poetry Bundle, it comes with cute poetry passages, as well as, a comprehension activity! Even though she is only a preschooler, it’s nice to go over the passage and see what she remembered!
STEM Activities Your Kids Will Love!
One of my favorite things to do with my preschooler is STEM activities! As a kid I loved Science, building things, and figuring out how things worked. My daughter is a big thinker and builder, so she absolutely loves STEM activities. Education to the Core has great STEM Activities of all kinds, that come with a little story. They are made with inexpensive things you can easily find at a dollar store, so you don’t have to break the bank! As a homeschool mom, anyway I can teach and save is great for me! Some of our favorites are the musical instrument STEM activities, we like the Wind Pipes and Making a Guitar activity the most. Anything that makes noise really, even if my ears hurt after a while lol! Anything to get them interested in science and falling in love with education is a goldmine.
