Diphthong Sort: This center encourages students to read words with diphthongs and then sort them. The bags give so much novelty that students thrive on!
What Kind of Syllable, Part 2: This center was so popular, we decided to keep going with the amount of syllables we expose the students to. New words, more syllables!
Character Cards: Thoughtful Another great character card center! This month features thoughtfulness! A timely character trait for this time of year.
Linking Words: Link two sentences together with joining words. LITERALLY…use your links! The novelty doesn’t get better than this!
Spelling Bee: Students can practice “being the teacher” and giving a 10 word spelling test with common 2nd Grade sight words! They can also keep tally by using the cards provided.
Make a Sentence: Students will be given a picture and nine vocabulary words to go with the picture. They will then write a sentence (or two) of their choice that include the words they are given.
Searching for Clues: These task cards are GREAT for practicing valuable context clues skills. I truly believe that if we can explicitly teach these skills in isolation, students will be able to use context clues when reading independently.
What Would Happen If? These discussion cards are great for starting great conversations between the students of your class.
Accountable Talk Prompts: These Accountable Talk Prompts are perfect for practicing appropriate accountable talk. Students can choose from the four types of accountable talk as they discuss their answers to the prompts!
QR Codes Research: Truly one of my favorite centers of all time. Students will scan the cards and research to find answers to the questions on the cards.
Right now, I am sure you are probably thinking, “This is exactly what I have been looking for!!! How in the world do I get my hands on these?!?
