We can’t be more excited to share our December Centers with you!

You will find a variety of phonics, language, vocabulary, and listening & speaking activities with these December Literacy Centers. We provided a great review of essential kindergarten skills, a solid start to first grade skills, and a preview to second grade skills.  These centers will be beneficial to any first grade classroom!

Word Sliders

Students will add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words using the word sliders.

Use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words using the flip flap and compound words provided.

Students will command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when using the sentences provided.

Add drawings after reading the word card to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

Sound Spelling

Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words and writing them on the sound spelling cards.

Sight Word Phrase Race

Students will know and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words and phrases quickly using the sight word phrase race mat.

Students will understand the sounds of consonants and organize words by double consonants.

Clip a Blend

Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.  Students will clip the card with the correct blend.
