You will find a variety of phonics, language, vocabulary, and listening & speaking activities with these September centers. Concepts About Print Puzzles
Students will demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print by matching the pictures with their definitions. (RF.1.1)
CVC Puzzles
Students will orally produce single-syllable words by matching the picture puzzles and blending the words. (RF.1.2.B)
Clip It Rhyming Center
Students will recognize and produce rhyming words by reading the picture and “clipping” the rhyming word on the bottom of the card. (K.2.A Review)
Switch the Sound
Students will substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words using the laminated cards. (RF K.2.E Review)
Swatting Sight Words
Students will read common high-frequency words by sight by swatting sight words 31-60. (RF K.3.C)
Building Words with Prefixes and Suffixes
Students will identify frequently occurring root words by creating new words by adding prefixes and suffixes. (L 1.4.C)
Count the Sounds
Students will segment spoken single-syllable words into their complete sequence of individual sounds (phonemes) using the clip cards. (RFF 1.2.D)
Using Clues
Students will use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase and mark the correct meaning of the word. (L.1.4.A)
What Do You Think?
Students will build on others’ talk in conversations by voicing their opinion on several prompts and build on the comments of others through multiple exchanges. (SL 1.1.B)
Popsicle Conjunction Joiners
Students will choose frequently occurring conjunctions to connect two separate sentences to create a new sentence. (L 1.1.G)
