Working in your classroom with the lights off so no one thinks you’re in there… Taking the long way into your classroom in the morning so you don’t get stuck chatting with everyone in the office… Preferring to work with your students versus your colleagues… If any of these sound like you, you may be an INTROVERTED TEACHER!

And if you happen to have a teammate who seems to be an introvert, you may want to take a few notes because I have provided a list of ten things you need to know about introverted teachers.

Ten Things You Need to Know About Introverted Teachers

Introverted teachers tend to be very self-reflective, reviewing their previous lessons and identifying where changes can be made.  They like to plan ahead of time and cover all of their bases.

Having access to a variety resources to ensure that all of their students’ needs are met is a DREAM for introverted teachers. And because I am one (hee, hee), it was the driving force behind my decision to create an unlimited printables membership for primary teachers. Check it out below.

No matter what kind of teacher you are (introverted or extroverted), I’ve put together ten things every teacher can relate to!

1.  Introverted teachers absolutely dread those awkward social event gatherings.

We loathe those awkward social event gatherings.

There’s nothing worse than someone barging into my room to collect money for things like birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers, etc. Sorry, but if I am not close enough with you to be invited to the real thing, I would rather not go.  Or contribute money.

2.  Introverted teachers like keeping to ourselves in the workroom, or anywhere else on campus.

We enjoy our time alone in the workroom.

I cringe when others walk in.  In fact, sometimes I stop what I am doing, and try for a better time to come back.

3.  Introverted teachers pretend like we like everyone.

We pretend like we like everyone.

We are nice to everyone so we can avoid awkwardness.

4.  Introverted teachers come up with our best ideas when we are by ourselves.

We come up with our best ideas when we are by ourselves.

There is nothing wrong with some good collaboration, but we prefer to work independently.

5.  Introverted teachers take the long way if it means we can avoid people.

We take the long way if it means we can avoid people.

I have always been guilty of doing this.  I sometimes scope my routes based on the time of day and who will be where.

6.  Introverted teachers send out newsletters and emails to avoid individual emails and phone calls from parents.

We send out newsletters and emails to avoid individual emails and phone calls from parents.

We are always on top of our game when it comes to proactive communication.  The more we communicate, the less we are confronted about individual questions from parents.

7.  Introverted teachers love being around kids.

We love being around kids.

Being around kids never bothers us.  In fact, we are our best when we are around kids.  It’s the adults that sometimes throw us for a loop.

8.  When introverted teachers have something to say, people listen.

When we have something to say, people listen.

Just because we are careful to speak, doesn’t mean we aren’t paying attention.  We do a great job at absorbing all information, and if we have something to say, it is something that will add value to the conversation. You won’t find us asking questions at the end of staff meetings.

9.  Introverted teachers detest being treated like children during staff development.

 9. We detest being treating like children during staff development.

There is nothing worse than making us mix and mingle for a little activity planned by the powers that be.  Or worse yet, make us sit by people we don’t know the entire meeting.

10.  Introverted teachers  usually don’t go out on the weekends because we need to “recharge.”

We usually don't go out on the weekends because we need to "recharge."

We are very careful with where we spend our time.  If we do go out outside of school, we truly consider you a close friend.

I hope you enjoyed my fun little post!  Are you an introverted teacher? If you have any other introverted teacher traits, please leave them below!  I would love to hear from you!
