Many educators were forced by the Covid-19 pandemic to change their daily instruction. We were tasked with the challenge of not only creating virtual classrooms but making them engaging and effective. It was time to get creative and show off talents as only teachers could truly do. That is exactly what one veteran physical education teacher did!
Meet Mic Seifert, currently in his 22nd year of teaching. He is a new up-and-coming viral sensation on YouTube! Understanding the importance of altering his teaching methods, Mr. Seifert took to YouTube to reach his students.
Mr. Seifert is a physical education teacher from Davenport, Iowa. He began producing videos in April 2020, calling them “PE with Mr. S.” on his YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/PEwithMrS/videos . The purpose of these videos was to continue his face-to-face interactions and the importance of continuing to stay active even at home with students and family.
With this idea of a “family-friendly” approach to these online lessons, it isn’t surprising how effective these sessions truly are. Mr. S began to gain a few thousand subscribers over the course of Summer 2020. However, it wasn’t until a series of Christmas-themed videos that he truly became a viral YouTube sensation!
With a special take on the popular Christmas song, “12 Days Of Christmas”, Mr. S. introduces his most viral post “On the 1st Day of Fitness”. During this video he has his students tackle an exercise a day. Once they practice this exercise, then they go backward (just like the song) and do each day’s exercise.
To date, Mr. Seifert continues to post videos and gain followers. He now has over 40 student-friendly fitness lessons posted on his YouTube channel. The popularity and effectiveness of his lessons are shown in just views alone. Throughout all these videos, his channel has over 170,000 views!
